Green Ramat Aviv: the neighbourhood between the mall and the campus

Ramat Aviv Alef – "the green one" or "old Ramat Aviv" to locals – went up in the 1950s and is still one of the most pleasant places to live in North Tel Aviv: apartment blocks no taller than four storeys, a few low-rise houses tucked between them, and lawns shaded by mature trees. Einstein Street and the Ramat Aviv Mall mark its northern edge, Namir Road runs along the west, and across Chaim Levanon Street you're already on the Tel Aviv University campus.

That location makes it a genuinely mixed neighbourhood. Long-time residents live alongside people who chose it for the walk to campus, and with elementary schools and Alliance High School in the area, there are kids, teenagers, students and grown-ups all within a few quiet streets. For a music school, that's every stage of a musician's life on one map.

Why singing and bands make so much sense here

If you live next to a university, you already know the social side is half the point. In your twenties, "learning an instrument" is often really about something bigger: a place to sing in front of people, a band to play in, a song to get ready for an open-mic night, or simply a weekly hour that has nothing to do with deadlines. A regular vocal lesson and a band that meets every week give you exactly that – structure, new people and progress you can actually hear.

A word about apartments. A four-storey block with shared walls is not a recording studio. Part of what we teach is how to practise at home without starting a feud with the neighbours – quiet vocal warm-ups, guitar or piano at low volume, sensible practice hours – and we keep the loud part, the drums, amps and full band, for our school in Ramat Aviv Gimel.

If it's your voice you want to work on, start with singing lessons for students near Tel Aviv University: breathing, range, steadier high notes and singing without strain. Already play or sing and want a stage? Join one of our bands for young adults in Ramat Aviv, where you learn to lock in with a drummer, listen to each other and arrange a song like a real band.

And if the guitar that lived at your parents' place has followed you to your flat, now's a good time for adult guitar lessons in Green Ramat Aviv – from your first chords to accompanying whole songs. How it works: from Green Ramat Aviv to our North Tel Aviv music school

Our school is in Ramat Aviv Gimel, just north of you – cross Einstein Street, go through Neve Avivim, and a short drive gets you to your lesson. Here's what happens from your first message to your weekly slot:

  1. Get in touch. Fill in the form and tell us in a sentence or two what you'd like to play or sing, and which days and times work for you.
  2. Free, no-commitment trial lesson. Meet a teacher, play or sing a little, and talk about goals: a particular song, a band, a recording, or just the fun of it.
  3. Build a plan. Your teacher sets the pace around your schedule. At university? Tell your teacher when exams fall so you can plan lighter weeks in advance.
  4. Learn at the school or at home. Lessons take place at our school in Ramat Aviv Gimel, and you can also ask for Rockstar Home – lessons in your own flat in Green Ramat Aviv, subject to teacher availability.
  5. Join a band. When you're ready, your teacher will suggest an ensemble that matches your level and style.
Teacher's tip: practising singing in a flat with neighbours? Start with humming or singing through a straw. It's quiet, it warms up your voice gently and it teaches you to sing without pushing. Ten minutes of that before a seminar or a shift is worth more than an hour of belting at the weekend.

Before you begin, have a look at our singing tips for a healthy voice. Living closer to the northern end of Ramat Aviv? We have a separate page on music lessons for Neve Avivim, and if you're just across Namir Road there's one on lessons for Lamed residents. You'll find every neighbourhood we cover on our North Tel Aviv music lessons page.

Green Ramat Aviv FAQ

I'm a university student and I've never studied music. Is it too late to start?

Not at all. Adults who start from scratch and practise regularly are usually playing simple songs within a few months. At your trial lesson we'll find out what excites you and build a plan that fits around your degree.

Can I join a band if I don't know anyone?

Yes – that's exactly how many people join. We place you in an ensemble by age, level and style, and a teacher runs the rehearsals. If you're not ready for a band yet, you start with private lessons and join when your teacher thinks the time is right.

I live in a shared building. How do I practise singing without annoying the neighbours?

Start with quiet exercises such as humming and straw phonation, keep practice to reasonable hours, and save full-volume singing for lessons and rehearsals at the school. Your teacher will give you a short warm-up routine designed for a flat.

Do you teach in Green Ramat Aviv itself?

Our music school is in Ramat Aviv Gimel, a short drive north of Ramat Aviv Alef. You can also ask for Rockstar Home – lessons at your place in Green Ramat Aviv, subject to teacher availability.

What happens at the trial lesson, and do I need my own instrument?

You meet your teacher, try the instrument or sing a little, and set goals for the coming months. No instrument yet? Let us know when you book and your teacher will advise you on what to buy or rent. The lesson is free and there's no commitment.
