Lessons →The cornerstone of the Lamed neighbourhood (Tokhnit Lamed) was laid on 24 June 1969, and most of it was built in the 1970s to a plan by architect Yitzhak Perlstein. There are two stories behind the name: either the British Mandate-era "Plan L", or the streets forming the shape of the Hebrew letter lamed. Either way, it's a long-established residential neighbourhood of six-to-eight-storey apartment buildings, with the Zalman Aran elementary school, a community country club, shopping centres and synagogues.
Location is a big part of the appeal. Ramat Aviv Alef lies to the east, and beyond it Tel Aviv University and the Ramat Aviv Mall; New Ramat Aviv is to the north, Kokhav HaTzafon to the south, and Park HaYarkon, Tel Baruch Beach and the Tel Aviv Port are all close by. To the west are the grounds of the former Sde Dov airport, closed in 2019, and New Lamed – the section built south of Einstein and west of Levi Eshkol, which officially became part of the neighbourhood in 2015.
A long-established neighbourhood grows generations of players: parents who may once have played in a school band, and teenagers discovering the same rock songs on YouTube today. That's exactly where guitar and bass shine – instruments you start alone in your bedroom, but that really come alive when you play them with other people. Add a drummer, and you've got a band.
In a six- or eight-storey building, an electric guitar through a small amp or headphones, and a bass through headphones, are relatively neighbour-friendly. The real volume, the drums and full-band rehearsals are for our school.

A guitarist, a bassist and a drummer: that's how a band begins.
Three tracks that work especially well for people in the neighbourhood – teens and adults alike – and of course you can combine them:
Acoustic or electric, from open chords to riffs and solos. For teens who want to play songs by the bands they love, and for adults who finally want to play them properly.
The instrument every band is looking for. You can play a whole song on bass relatively quickly, and a good bassist finds a band far more easily than yet another guitarist.
A regular ensemble with a teacher: choose songs, split the parts, arrange and get ready to perform. For teens and for adults.
Been playing alone in your room for a year? Guitar lessons for teens in Lamed will sort out technique, timing and your understanding of what you're playing – so you're ready to play with others. If you're drawn to the instrument that holds down the groove, start with bass guitar lessons for Lamed and New Lamed.
Once you've got a few songs under your fingers, the next step is a rock band for teens and adults from Tokhnit Lamed, where you learn what private lessons can't teach: listening, leaving space and ending a song together. And for anyone who's always wanted to sit behind the kit, there are drum lessons for Lamed drummers – because there's no band without a drummer.
And there are younger siblings, too. Kids from age 6 can start guitar or piano at a pace that suits their age, with songs they already know. Start young, and by high school you'll have the confidence to join your first band.
Our school is in Ramat Aviv Gimel, north of you – a short drive up Namir Road. Here's how to get started:
For that kind of practice at home, try our free jam backing tracks. Wondering whether bass is for you? Read why the bass guitar holds the band together. Neighbours north of Einstein have their own page on instrument lessons in New Ramat Aviv, and those east of Namir on music lessons in Ramat Aviv Alef, the green one. Every neighbourhood we cover is on our music lessons in North Tel Aviv neighbourhoods page.
Start with a trial lesson where the teacher hears where they are. If they're ready, they can join a teen ensemble by level and style. If not yet, a few private lessons will close the gaps – mostly timing and playing along with drums – and then they join.
If you love the groove more than the solo – probably yes. Bass lets you play whole songs relatively quickly, and bassists are in demand in every band. At the trial lesson you can try both and decide.
Not at all. Your hands remember more than you think. Your teacher will build a comeback plan that starts with the songs you used to play, and you can join an adult ensemble too.
