“I don't have a voice”

That's the sentence we love hearing most in a first lesson. Because it's almost never true.

The voice is a muscle. It isn't born in tune, it's built. What most people call “no voice” is almost always a voice that nobody ever taught to breathe properly, to lean on the diaphragm instead of the throat, or simply to stop being afraid of its own sound.

In the first lesson we don't check whether you have a voice. We show it to you.

What really happens in a lesson

No scales by rote and no memorizing. This is what a vocal lesson with us looks like, from the moment you walk into the room.

First 10 minutes

Breathing and support

Before we touch a song. Most of what sounds like a “weak voice” is actually breath that isn't supporting. We work on the diaphragm, releasing the jaw and posture, and the sound changes before we've learned a single note.

The warm-up

Finding your sound

Not an imitation of another singer. We find your true range, the register that feels comfortable and the place where your voice sounds like itself. This is the stage where most people hear, for the first time, something they didn't know they could do.

The core of the lesson

A song you chose

The song you sing in the shower is the best starting point there is. We work on repertoire you love: Hebrew or English, pop, rock or ballads. And through it you learn intonation, interpretation and lyrics.

From the first lesson

Microphone in hand

Singing into a microphone is a skill of its own: distance, dynamics, what to do with your hands. With us it isn't saved for “when you're ready”, it's part of the lesson from day one.

Towards the end

Record and listen

Hearing yourself is the fastest lesson there is. The recording also shows progress that's hard to feel from the inside. After a month you hear the difference, and you don't have to take our word for it.

Who it's for

The same teacher, three completely different conversations. The lesson is built around whoever is sitting across from us.

Ages 7–12

The kid who sings all day

Sings at home at full volume, and clams up in front of people. At this age we mostly work on confidence: vocal games, songs they know, and no corrections that make them stop trying. Technique comes later, gently and by age.

Ages 13–18

The age when the voice changes

The age when the voice really changes, and exactly when most people are afraid to sing. The right guidance in this period protects the voice, builds range, and brings teens onto the stage with a repertoire of their own and confidence that stays long after.

Adults

“I always wanted to”

The most common with us, and the most rewarding. No exams, no competition and no age at which it's too late. Come once a week, sing what you love, and within a few months discover a voice you didn't know you had. Some go on to sing at the concert too.

Musicians from the industry who chose to teach: music academy graduates, singers and players who perform and record, with experience teaching kids, teens and adults. Not students topping up their income.

Experienced with every age. A shy eight-year-old, a teenager whose voice is changing and an adult fulfilling a dream get three completely different lessons. Adapting is part of the craft.

With you all the way to the stage. The same teacher who teaches you in the room goes up with you to the concert. And if the chemistry isn't working, we switch teachers, no drama.

Everything you wanted to ask before the first lesson

Do I need to read music?

No. Most of our students start with no theory background at all. Reading music is a tool, not an entry requirement. Those who want to will learn it along the way, and those who don't will sing beautifully without it.

My child is shy about singing in front of people. Is this even possible?

That's exactly the case the private lesson was built for. One-on-one, in a closed room, with no audience and no judgment. Many of the kids who came to us “too shy for this” were on stage at a concert within a year – but only when they wanted to.

How long until you can hear a change?

You can feel a change in the sound in the very first lesson, once the breathing falls into place. A change that others can hear too usually comes within six to ten lessons. The recordings from the lessons are the fair way to measure it.

My teenager's voice is changing. Should we wait for it to settle?

Quite the opposite. This is the period when professional guidance matters most, so as not to strain a changing voice or develop habits that will need fixing later. We adapt the range and the workload to the stage the voice is at.

What happens in the trial lesson?

Thirty minutes with us in the studio, no commitment. You sing something, we check your range, we talk about where you want to get to, and you decide afterwards whether to continue.

Where do the lessons take place?

At the school's centers in north Tel Aviv,
and at students' homes in selected areas

Rockstar's main center sits in the heart of Ramat Aviv Gimel, at 85 Meir Feinstein St., a short distance from Ramat Aviv, Neve Avivim and the rest of north Tel Aviv's neighborhoods.

Fully equipped teaching rooms, a studio and teachers who are working musicians. You arrive, warm up and start singing.
