The supply is large, and the differences between places are significant. Here are the questions we recommend asking, including us.
1. Who are the teachers, and what do they do besides teaching?
A teacher who is a working musician brings the stage and the studio into the lesson. Ask about their background, their gigs, their recordings. At Rockstar all the teachers actively play, sing and produce; that was the first requirement when we built the team.
2. Private or group lessons?
For the instrument itself, a private lesson progresses much faster: every minute is devoted to one student. A group is good for something else: playing together. The ideal combination is one private lesson a week and, in time, joining an ensemble.
3. What does the curriculum look like?
“We start with a method book” is an answer to be wary of. Ask whether the lesson is built around music the student loves, whether writing and creating are included, and whether there’s work with technology (recording, loops, production software). Kids in 2026 learn differently.
4. Is there a stage?
Student performances, ensembles and recitals aren’t a bonus; they’re what turns practice into a goal. Find out how many times a year students get on stage.
5. What happens when it doesn’t click?
Sometimes the instrument isn’t right, sometimes the teacher. A good school will offer to switch instrument or teacher without drama. With us it happens, and it’s perfectly fine.
6. What does the commitment include?
Ask about a trial lesson, the cancellation policy and payment. We always start with a no-commitment trial lesson: you come, you play, you meet the teacher, and only then do you decide.
7. Where is it, and how do you get there?
Logistics beat motivation. A lesson that’s hard to get to falls apart in winter. Rockstar is at 85 Meir Feinstein Street in Ramat Aviv Gimel, a short walk or drive from most of the neighborhoods in the north of the city.
